Canady + Lortz LLP is proudly sponsoring the Young Women in Bio (YWIB) section of Women in Bio at the 5th USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo in Washington, DC on April 7–8, 2018.
YWIB is a special initiative designed to introduce middle and high school-age girls to careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Last year, YWIB demonstrated the phenomenon of fluorescence and its applications in biotech. They explained fluorescence using the visible light spectrum and an array of fluorescent nanoparticles called semiconductor quantum dots. Participants saw how fluorescent markers are used to detect certain components of a cell.
